Overview of Packaging and Transportation Requirements for Medical Devices (in vitro diagnostic medical equipment)

Miss. Zeng Ning, Senior Engineer/Safety Testing Engineer, Beijing Institute Medical Device Testing
Presentation summary

1. YY 0648-2008 "Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use Part 2-101: Particular requirements for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) medical equipment " is the implemented standard when registering and testing in vitro diagnostic medical equipment in China, in which the requirements for Transport and Storage (8.101) are "conformity is checked by inspection of records of transport tests performed by the manufacturer ". In the past, manufacturers needed to implement GB/ T 14710 "Environmental Requirements and Test Methods for Medical Electrical Equipment", and providing GB/ T 14710 testing report.

2. In 2021, the National Medical Products Administration issued two announcements, "Announcement on Publishing Medical Device Registration Application Material Requirements and Approval Certificate File Format", "Announcement on Publishing in Vitro Diagnostic Reagent Registration Application Material Requirements and Approval Certificate Document Format", which put forward requirements for transport stability and required manufacturers to provide corresponding research reports.

3. Starting in 2022, the implementation standards are GB/ T 14710, AST D4169, ISTA and GB/T 4857 for records of transport tests performed by the manufacturer.

4. Based on available reports , it can be seen that the packaging and transportation standards implemented by overseas medical devices are more advanced, and the general requirements covers a comprehensive range. The disadvantage is that special requirements are not targeted.

5. We hope that through exchanges, we can standardize the requirements of domestic transport packaging and more effectively evaluate the stability of transport packaging of in vitro diagnostic medical equipment.

Sustainable Development and Packaging Verification Tests of Home Lighting Product Packaging

Mr. Xu Xin, Packaging Technology Manager, Signify (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (formerly Philips Lighting)
Presentation summary

As the sustainable development of the packaging industry continues to deepen, the sustainable development of packaging for home appliance products is now in the implementation stage. As a part of the category of electronic products, the packaging of home lighting products has initially completed the design and implementation work for sustainable development. In order to achieve sustainable packaging goals, we have adopted a strategy of de-plasticization. However, some difficulties and challenges have been encountered in the de-plasticization design, and I will share some practical cases in this speech. In addition, there are challenges with conducting packaging tests and verifications after de-plasticization, and I will also introduce some existing testing and verification methods suitable for domestic courier transportation. Through these examples and methods, we can better understand and address the issues and solutions during the sustainable development process of packaging for home appliance products.

Development and Application of Ultra-low Temperature Medical Cold Box Under the Goals of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality

Zhang Yuchen, R&D Manager, Shanghai Shengsheng Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Technology Co., Ltd.
Presentation summary

Ultra-low temperature transportation has always been an important part of pharmaceutical logistics, especially for vaccines and clinical drugs. Till now, dry ice still plays the key role for deep-freeze transportation due to its low cost and temperature consistency. Generally, single-use foam boxes are most widely used in domestic transportation. However, there is strict limitation of dry ice loading on flight which restrict the use of foam boxes. A highly efficient recyclable ultra-low temperature medical cold box has been developed. Based on vacuum insulation panels, it can save up to 80% consumption of dry ice, in the meantime, qualified to be used on flight. It has been applied in pharmaceutical logistics with zero failure record and reduce CO2 emission simultaneously.
